Bet you didn't know this...

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

The State of California has just given away over $100,000,000 in rebates to be used either as energy storage for your home's existing solar system or as part of a new solar system (if bought in the last two months). $44,000,000 was also allocated to customers of PG&E as part of the equity resilience program. With most homes either qualifying for either one or two batteries at $13,200 per battery, between 1,600 to 3,000 northern California households and businesses have greatly benefited from this unprecedented effort to jumpstart Grid Free Independence in areas that were greatly impacted by the Fire Season Blackouts.

The Self Generation Incentive Program or SGIP accessed here via www.selfgenca.com has been in existence for nearly a decade. Its original intent was to help build an industry in energy storage solutions, which, by now, it has practically achieved. It now is a vehicle to drive widespread adoption of ready for prime time energy storage solutions in California.

Of course, the unprecedented level of funding this year is hard to fathom, particularly when it was done without little fanfare or chest-beating. But, to put it into perspective, it only took a couple of months for demand to fully deplete the rebates.

Let's hope, for the interest of Grid Free minded Californians, it gets funded again (and again) so we can finally realize the greater good of a resilient Grid Free energy infrastructure.
